As part of our electronic contract manufacturing services, SMS offers comprehensive materials management through its lean materials initiatives. By utilizing our in-house stores, SMS can provide minimum risk with maximum flexibility for your turnkey manufacturing. However, for those who require a consignment model, SMS also has the solution.

- Employing our MRP share program under contract with our major suppliers, SMS is able to manage material flow, and thus risk, for all our customers. Arrow and Avnet Electronics maintain in-plant stores which are supported and managed with full time sales resident at SMS. These systems allows SMS’ suppliers to pipeline material and have it available on hand to support SMS’ lean system of just-in-time delivery.
- Senior buyers with multi-year experience managed by a seasoned purchasing manager with over 25 years of experience
- SMS’ ERP system is by IFS. This is a manufacturing management centric ERP system controlled by Master Schedule and Material Requirement Planning (MRP).
- Automated (Polydyne Quote Win) material quoting system to quickly generate accurate and timely quotes. This system allows suppliers to download data quickly and improve turn-around time for material quotes.
- Manufacturing floor control through a bar code-based WIP system This internally developed “real-time” system allows SMS to track all production WIP at anytime. This system also prevents products that move in a “single-piece” flow to be stopped at any point if a prior process has not been completed.
- SMS’ lean inventory system and the use of in-plant stores by Arrow and Avnet minimize obsolete parts and excess material. Notification to SMS by suppliers of any parts going obsolete in the future allows SMS to work with its customers to plan an end-of-life strategy.
- In-house flexible tape-and-reel capabilities are available for specific package-size semiconductors that must be acquired in bulk.
